Interior designers from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and western New York descended on the Ohio Design Center for yesterday’s annual Fall Market Day. Showrooms were dressed in their finery with new furniture, carpets and overflowing with beautiful new fabrics and other design related materials. The day was jam packed with events and speakers from all over the world.
This year, rather than the usual showroom crawl for creative snacks and fun cocktails, in honor of the Design Center’s 30th anniversary, each showroom teamed up with a local baker to present a cake in honor of the event. Of course the cakes were supplemented with cupcakes or additional cakes for our sugary pleasure.
Love this confectioner replication of a famous Donghia chaise, and with a cute little fiber optic light by pastry chef Linda Edwards of J. Pistone Market. Donghia was also the host of guest speaker Lori Weitzner, wall covering and textile designer of Weitzner Limited who introduced her stunning new wallcovering collection.
Baker Knapp & Tubbs set the bar high with a complete revamp of almost the entire showroom. The main salon featured returning designer Barbara Barry‘s new collection a fresh spin on some of her classics in wonderful new finishes and many exiting new items.

Greeting designers as they entered was this gorgeous cake by Wendy Kromer Cake Confections contributing editor to Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and co-author of Martha Stewart’s Wedding Cakes.

In the Atelier Lapchi showroom, well loved Cleveland area baker Phyllis Lester served delectable slices of the most decadent three layer chocolate cake creation decorated to match one of Lapchi’s new rug designs. No surprise here, she won for best taste.

Each baker worked with a showroom to coordinate a specific design element with their cake. Happy Cakes & More chose this wonderful embroidered fabric from the Surface Materials showroom for a fall inspired theme.
Vegan Sweet Tooth replicated a number of classic blue and white fabrics for the A.E. Monroe & Company showroom.
Stella Kotsatos Angelo from Cake Boutique created this entire “Barbie Dreamhouse” scale interior and cake for Gregory Alonzo Showrooms. Attention to detail was clearly the reason for her winning the popular vote category. A full size version of this wonderful new rug from Kravet is available.
It was a fun event but OMG if I see another cupcake… like I can ignore the remaining four sitting on my counter I made the other day – chocolate w/peanut butter cream cheese frosting. I might be cured of my sugar addiction, for a few days.
