Afraid of putting a certain color on the wall or in a room? Well grab your ____ and go for it! Yes, I am serious. Why so bold, so blunt, so in your face? Because I want to help you get what you want and short-circuit your worries. How can I do this without seeing your space? Dahling, I’ve been faced with the same conversation, the same trepidation, the same worries from plenty of clients and once freed they are always happy with their color choices.

Just the other day I had a conversation about this subject with a customer. She had picked a “safe” color for her dining room and guess what? She rarely uses the room. “Safe” according to whom? When working with a color which is going to be the focal point of a room,
#1. A color has to coordinate with your home or room.
#2. A color has to work with you personally.
Color is so so so soooooo personal. I can’t tell you what color will work for you, I can listen, guide, nudge and coach. The thing about color is it speaks to people differently and it being your home, you’ve got to go with what you respond favorably too. Love eggplant purple, but the little child on your shoulder is whispering “what would my mother think?” It doesn’t matter, unless you are living in her house.

Listen to yourself. If you really love navy, don’t shy away from it. If you swoon at the sight of red walls, take a stand. When it comes to color, trust your gut!

The thing about color is to get rid of all those ghosts in one’s head offering unsolicited advice. Use colors which speak to you. It is your home, you live in it. Of course consulting an interior designer (click for my Help Me Now page) for the added push or moral support in guiding you through creating a complete palette and look does help, a lot. But there is really no point in being something one is not, or the space will never feel comfortable. If you like soothing pastels use them. If your heart does cartwheels for vibrant jewel tones, use them. If you love the colors of the desert southwest, go for it. When it comes to the main colors, create a palette which is you.
