2015 Amelia Island Concours: Horsepower Rules


Amelia Island Concours PreviewThis year the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance promises to be very heavy on the horsepower.  The annual event is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year.  Located on the sunning grounds of the Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island, Florida, racing is the name of the game this year.   1955 Mercedes Benz SLR RoadsterSir Stirling Moss will open the show by driving onto the show field at 9:45 a.m. in the Mile Miglia winning 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR that he piloted with navigator Denis Jenkinson.  One of the greatest racing drivers in history, who raced along side many of Formula One and other racing greats as both teammates and competitor such as:

Sir Stirling Moss Collage One of the features at this year’s event will be 23 Moss cars he raced throughout his career, including the famous Mercedes W196 streamliner.  The W196 is an important car for Mercedes-Benz being the first Formula 1 car they built and entered after WWII.

The Amelia Island Concours caters to all car enthusiast’s tastes.  Here are a few of the premier classes:

Auctions at Amelia Island are always good but this year, with Sotheby’s buying a 25% ownership position in RM Auctions, now known as RM Auctions | Sotheby’s, their strategic partnership promises great things.  One look at this years auction catalogue packed with an inordinate amount of “the good stuff,” classics and high dollar cars, this year’s Amelia Island Auction will be a notable event.
