Moooi is a design collective of international designers producing lighting, furniture and accessories for interiors which capture the essence of creativity and beauty. Founded in 2001 by noted Dutch designer and visual guru, Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers, marketer extraordinaire, the two men created a world where design and art unite to produce unique iconic objects which make any interior smile.
While visiting Amsterdam on day four of BlogTour Cologne, we were treated to a special visit to Moooi. Step into a world of visual inspiration captured in extraordinary furnishings, some you may even recognize. Who said white furniture is boring? Constructed of wood and cardboard, finished with paper and polyurethane (PU) lacquer, the white furniture and lighting from the Paper Collection are an exercise in delight. Texture is the name of the game in any interior. I’m thinking cozy wooly sweater and Chanel. Fondle-worthy. Talk about fun, imagine these (indoors or outdoors) and your next dining soiree. The romance of Dutch blue and white (Delft Blue) porcelain is a perfect match for the not so delicate Crochet table. Yes, I did just say crochet in a post involving fun, modern and stylish interiors. Here they are in Casper Vissers home.
The products from Moooi have a defining characteristic: each has both a recognizable element and a surprise. The Extension Chairs offer this characteristic in a rather cool way. Artist and furniture maker Sjoerd Vroonland explained how he took the everyday chair and added some fun. Lighting as a conversation piece. You may have seen this true to life sized Horse Lamp by Swedish design group Front, in chic restaurants and boutique hotels around the globe.
When an interior needs an injection of fun, Moooi is the place to go. Yes, their products are available stateside through various dealers. Whew. For more about Moooi and their philosophy, check out this interview with Casper Vissers.
