Tired the ugly CFL (compact fluorescent light) reminiscent of an industrial swirling Dairy Queen vanilla ice cream? Well this is all about to change thanks to a London company called Plumen. The name comes from the “plume” of birds feathers. Designer Samuel Wilkinson realized selling a product is based on the item being attractive, which the old CFL bulbs are not. What he created is an interior designer’s dream, light as sculpture… or sculpture as light.
On March 18, 2011 they were given a great honor of the overall award for Brit Insurance Designs of the Year 2011.
Currently it is only available overseas but it will hit our shores soon. Quite frankly these are a fantastic alternative for locations where one has to view a light bulb and the home decor calls for an open light fixture. If one has to look at it, it might as well be attractive.
