How many times have you heard someone speak of dining rooms in terms of it being the room they use a few times a year?
Today many people forgo the traditional four walls of a partitioned dining room, preferring an open and more friendly arrangement. I can’t count the the design projects in older homes where we have re-purposed the staid dining room into a more purposeful room, or removed walls and created a user friendly dining space. Today it isn’t that we nix the dining room all together but rather create interiors which are fun and functional for modern families.Today we want modern, fun, inviting, friendly and useful dining spaces.Maybe the room is no longer a room but an open space.Maybe we forgo the matchy- matchy sets and embrace the eclectic.Maybe we choose to inject some personality with color.Maybe we still like a formal room for entertaining but not so uptight.Maybe the room does double duty as homework central.
There is no rule which says a dining room must be filled with the old school furniture set-up: table and chairs to seat 8 or more, sideboard or buffet and china cabinet. When it comes to furniture have what you need a majority of the time. Whatever your style make your dining room a room which works for your family and your lifestyle.
