There are slightly more than 100 days left until the cool morning coastal California haze clears to uncover the pristine vintage cars and motorcycles invited to the illustrious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 17, 2014. Automobile aficionados from all over the world will arrive in Monterey County California to appreciate the best of the best in automotive excellence. The featured classes for 2014 will be:
• Maserati Centennial
• Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
• Fernandez et Darrin Coachwork
• Steam Cars
• Rolls-Royce Phantom IV and Phantom V
• Eastern European Motorcycles
In honor of the 100th anniversary of Maserati, officially founded on December 1, 1914, this year the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will offer a special place on the lawn to prime examples from 100 years of the Italian automaker.
Hard to imagine they are 100 years old. Have you ever heard of the revolutionary front-wheel drive Ruxton with the distintive cat-like headlights? Likely not as it was only produced from 1929 to 1930, with lawsuits putting an end to the very limited production in theatrical colors. What is not to appreciate the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, an example of automotive sculpture at its finest.Believe it or not but Tatra as an automaker has been around since 1897 and is the third oldest automobile manufacturer. Motorcycles have their own classes at Pebble Beach and this year the Europeans will be out in force.
These are only a few examples of what you might see at Pebble Beach in 2014. Hope you’ve got all your reservations in order. See you there!
