Chairs are for sitting or aren’t they? In the hands of Lila Jang, artist in residence at Lux Art Institute one might conclude furniture is more a matter of sculpture and beauty, forget the function. The precision of her creation and balance of comic exaggeration leaves one to smile rather than sit. Read her bio and one can understand the whimsical approach to her work. I’ve said sculptural chairs are a worthy addition to home interior. But she takes furniture as art to a whole new level. This drawer reminds me of a tongue lapping up the beauty around it. She takes fashionable furniture and literally turns it on it’s ear, in a good way. Her work is amusing, I’m happier having seen it.
