Last week I spent time with 80 other authors of design blogs to celebrate our membership in Brizo’s Blogger 19 groups at the historic Peabody Hotel in the heart of Memphis. It would be a mistake to expect a drama filled nightmare from a group of design obsessed, opinionated personalities, most of whom are women. I mean it wouldn’t be a stretch but in this case, unfounded. The Blogger 19 reunion was a happy place.
Most agreed is was better than any high school reunion could ever be. The fashion sense was good. Everyone looked better than their twitter avatar, nobody ran their own show or got stupid drunk after hours. All smiles, no drama.
I went to my husband’s where I actually knew a lot of people and it convinced me not to bother with my reunion. Ever see Sex In The City 2, where Carrie and Big are talking to one of her fans at the Gay wedding and upon saying kids aren’t for them the conversation is over? This was not creative writing, it is real life. No kids = no conversation. Sorry, but I just don’t tolerate simple mindedness.
At the Brizo Reunion, nobody cared if you have children, cats, dogs, what you wear, or who you are. Refreshing and real.
Old pals reconnected, twitter pals who’d never met IRL (in real life) interacted like long lost friends. Nothing mattered other than the common bond we shared and the new one we made through our introduction to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This life changing experience of a visit to the Children’s Hospital deserves at least one post, so you’ll have to wait for the scoop. Let me just say, St. Jude is a leader in helping/curing pediatric cancer and a model of healthcare efficiency.
Brizo was like the family matriarch pulling us together from all corners of the United States and Canada. Seeing Brizo team members with whom we have only met once, maybe twice was like seeing a (good) family member and picking up like no time had passed.
Not the intense heat, long bus ride or thunderstorm induced power outage kept us from appreciating the Delta/Brizo factory tour, another blog post opportunity. Let me leave it here, this is a company who puts quality at the top of their to do list. They take pride in their products from top management all the way to the factory floor. If there is an issue, they will make solving it a priority. Mmmm, corporate integrity one can appreciate.
For the full list of participating Blogger 19 members click on last week’s post. Other Blogger 19 posts highlight our initial meeting in New York City. We had a fabulous time. I’m honored to have been part of such an enjoyable reunion. Thank you Brizo!
As for this week, I’ll be a little quiet. All good. I am hosting Blogger Retreat in the Canadian countryside for blog authors and business owners serious about their craft ,interested in learning, growing, sharing and creating a more relevant community. Country WiFi is a bit iffy, so if you don’t hear from me, it isn’t that I don’t love you, I’m just enjoying a techno-detox.
