The Gatsby frenzy is still in the air as a 1934 Packard wins the esteemed “Best of Show” trophy at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Look at those long sexy lines, those touchable curving custom teardrop fenders… (Can you tell, I’m purring.) Forgoing all extra embellishment this stately Packard lets the design stand for itself. Painted a deep enduring green, this is what we call a “head turner.”
According to Concours Chairman Sandra Button, “This Packard is the epitome of American style and grace in the Classic Era; it embodies that period. It is understated but elegant, and it has a striking but quiet presence. When it drove onto our show field this morning, and I stepped forward to greet the Cassinis, I could barely hear the engine running.”
The 1930’s was the era of Packard’s heyday. When the look, touch and feel was as dynamic as what was under the hood. Design was gorgeous and purposeful. Aerodynamics ruled.
This Packard is truly special, which accounts for the win. Only one other time in the last 20 years (2007) did and American car win at Pebble Beach. Wanna see it?
The 1935 Duesenberg SJ Speedster also known as the Mormon Meteor as seen the year following the Pebble Beach win. Of course I have the picture. I’d never let you down. 🙂
Ahh I just love the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and all the automotive eye candy one takes in during and surrounding the event. You’ll note, this year I did not attend due to other engagements but I’ll be there again next year, without a doubt.
Happy Motoring!
