Happy Earth Day!

When it comes to interior design and all things home decor oriented, it is very easy to go green. Interior designers have been pushing environmentally friendly choices before they realized it mattered. Here are some of our favorites.
1. Re-cover upholstered furniture. Buy it once, buy it right and all you’ll have to do is recover when you want to change your decor. A good sofa or chair should last with the family for many years.

2. Re-cycle old furniture. Go ahead, pick something off the curb someone else has tossed. Garage sales, estate sales and tag sales are all great places to locate great furniture to either recover or refurbish. Quality antique shops and online sites like 1stdibs have awesome old pieces which are often superior in both design and craftsmanship to what you could get new and for a fraction of the cost!
3. Choose environmentally friendly materials. Reclaimed wood makes excellent floors and cabinetry. Bamboo is harder than hardwood, more dimensionally stable and renewable in only nine years.

4. Use only real plants indoors. Real plants infuse the air with oxygen and enhance indoor air quality. Fake plants end up in landfills, can be air pollutants, are dust magnets and really don’t look that great. Fresh flowers are far superior to enhancing the smell of a home than phony smelling air fresheners filled with chemicals which can cause headaches and other irritations.

Orchids are always a classic choice.
