Car lovers from all over the world take over the tiny coastal town of Carmel, California for the kick off event for Car Week which ends on Sunday with the world renown Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance. White skies of morning fog covered the area allowing a slight mist to sputter on the pre-polished entrants of over 175 classic, vintage, modern and other interesting cars as they lined up for their spots on the Avenue early in the morning.
Around 10:50 the sun forced back the clouds and parking roulette for visitors began. The Penelope Pittstop (D-type) Jaguars were the opening entrants on Ocean Avenue. Next came a smattering of this and that but this unusually large Austin garnered a lot of attention.

It was a beautiful day and enjoyable show with lots of neat and unusual entrants such as the Auto Union four door wagon complete with original picnic hamper and luggage.

There were a few touring Ferraris and a whole group of racers. Inappropriately hidden behind a Volkswagen Kombi bus/van was a beautiful 1928 Bentley which made no sense.
There were plenty of neat cars but not enough to keep it from feeling like you were at a Porsche Parade with a few other cars thrown in. In speaking with a local ex-editor of a vintage racing mag, this was not just my opinion. I’m not certain why there were so many Porsche cars represented, but there was a car for every taste.
