Bedrooms are for sleeping. Bedroom decor should promote rest and relaxation. However, this does not mean the bedroom walls need to be void of any interest. A creative, and inexpensive way to deal with boring bedroom walls are with big bold stripe.
Due to the predictability of pattern, a stripe can be very relaxing… one’s eye knows exactly what is coming next. Big bold stripes, the 18″ variety are sublime without being in your face if you utilize a monochromatic bedroom wall color scheme. I wouldn’t suggest bright red or a hot green, but a more soothing color which is less about the color and more about creating a backdrop.
In this room this soft aqua blue shifts between looking blue, to greenish to gray depending on the light which makes it act iridescent on a large scale. The color shifts from wall to wall, but it remains soothing.
When using stripes it is more important the size be uniform rather than try to line up with the architecture in a room. This is makes the hard edges of a room fall away and allow the room to act like a big hug.
Big walls can be so boring, but in a bedroom one doesn’t want walls which are too explosive otherwise it will be difficult to achieve a restful sleep. Bedrooms need to be tranquil. The furnishings, decor, and colors all need to be designed to promote rest and relaxation. Big, bold monochromatic stripes are a great interior design trick for adding interest to bedroom walls while remaining restful on the eyes.
