There are a number of people with fascinating collector car garages for their vintage cars or exotic supercars who trick out the inside of their garage to look like a service station, or a street from another era, but once in a while you stumble across someone who goes one step further… who gets creative with the garage door. Recently I came across a very intriguing garage door, take a look.
This is an optical illusion, the door is not open… it is closed.
I had to know more. Just my luck the owner, is a friend of a friend, so I also lucked out with an interview. As with may car peeps, we’ll keep the car lover’s name private. If you want a garage door like this in your home, see Titan Garage Doors Coquitlam homepage.

“The inspiration was a photo depiction of a bathroom floor which had fallen through so that you could see the pipes, etc. and clouds below. We hired an artist to depict our garage exactly as it looks (same walls, stairs, etc.) with one of the cars we had at the time, showing the garage floor falling away, revealing some rebar, and the earth underneath. One car has already fallen through, the other car is tilting, and Waldo, one of our pugs is looking down through the hole wondering what the heck is going on.”
She is right about the alley community, and it isn’t some seedy little street. This is right in the heart of Uptown Dallas in a charming area of old and new stone and brick attached homes with the most darling little courtyards hiding homes with soaring ceilings, marble floors, grand staircases and plenty of elegance and style.
But wait there is more, we have to know about the cars. It is always fascinating to learn what cars move people.
Her car history and colors:
- First grown up car = black Porsche 944S – loved the curves and the cockpit feel.
- Red Lotus Esprit
- Black Jaguar XKE
- White Porsche 911
- White BMW 740
- 3 Volkswagen Bug Convertibles (note: she is also one of the million unimpressed with the new body style.)
- 2 BMW 335s
- a couple of SUVs thrown in for fun
Her current ride is a BMW M3 convertible. Gotta love a gal who goes after the speedy sporty versions. Like someone else you know, once you go European, you don’t go back(wards). German engineering is the gold standard for a reason, at least in the daily driver category.
Note to car manufacturers, a fair number us female drivers buy sportscars, luxury cars and exotics. We love our cars, the noise, acceleration, style, shape, handling and feel just like the male car fanatic. We don’t drive “girl” cars and couldn’t care less about DVD’s in the head rests or juice-box holders. However, in my personal opinion – supported by my own personal polling, you guys are totally missing the mark by primarily focusing on the male population when it comes to car buying. Just say’in…
Next week I might offer you a tiny peek into a garage project, again privacy protected, but enough to get your minds chewing on what fun can be had with collector car garage design. Happy Motoring!
