Favorite Recipes For a Holiday Crowd

Fourth of July WatermelonFood goes with the Fourth of July holiday like milk and Oreos. Backyard barbecues, lakeside picnics and yummy treats are part of our summer holiday culture. The American way is to celebrate with great food. Here are some of my favorite dessert and breakfast baked good recipes which are great for a Fourth of July holiday feast.

Wanna have fun with dessert?  This is your opportunity to really pull a fast one…

Steak and Fries for DessertLooks like a juicy meaty steak doesn’t it?  I love to plate these up ahead of time then plop them down on the table after people have finished their meal.  Ha ha ha – it is chocolate ice cream and pound cake. Find the recipe at Food Network.

Strawberry CupcakesBy now you know how I love a cupcake…  I made these super yummy strawberry cupcakes with my kickboxing partner as an attempt to balance our vigorous workouts.

Cherry MuffinsCherries are in season and I love them, but how much cherry pie and ice cream can a gal eat?  Don’t answer that. Point being, there has to be other opportunities to achieve your cherry flavored fix.

Truth is, I don’t particularly like muffins but these have a moist cake-like flavor bursting with cherry love, yum-a-licious. Cherry muffins are easy to make ahead of time and travel well, though they will be gone before you return from the cottage.

Finally, I’ll go nostalgic with my grandmother’s fry-cakes or homemade donuts. Homemade donuts As a kid I had fun playing kitchen assistant when my grandmother or mom made fry-cakes (donuts).  It was an event which has left me with many happy memories. When I recently made these with my brother and his family, this was a neat experience to pass on to the next generation.

Feeding friends and family is fun.  Do you have favorite foods or recipes you like to make for the Fourth?  I hope you have a happy Fourth Of July and a fun holiday weekend.Decor Girl rwb
