Summer on the “cool coast” of California for Car Week in Pebble Beach, Monterey and Carmel California gives one an opportunity to enjoy the charming architecture and homes of Carmel-By-The-Sea. This is where old movie stars come to roost and live in obscurity if they choose amongst a large number of transplants leaving their high powered jobs back east for easy living.
From a design perspective, Carmel is a great reminder that what is not alike is much more interesting. Homes on the Monterey Peninsula have a relaxed creativity about them. The hilly terrain requires adaptable design as opposed to just and other box. I was inspired by their non-conformity, especially in the Carmel area. Homes are an interesting mix of styles, shapes and colors. Texture is as important on the outside as it is on the inside.
But the roofs offer an entirely different perspective. 
Yes, all of these are in the quaint little enclave Carmel-By-The-Sea. The architecture of each home has a distinctive personality which is what most of us strive for. The homes feel very livable. It is not so much dare to be different as it is be unique but still tasteful. Bigger is not better, interesting is. Ready to move in?
