It Just Feels Like A Day For A Donut

Confession: I am a note taker.  If I hear or read about something I make note of it.  Truthfully many of these notes never resurface but some do.

In my little travel notebook there are clippings from magazines, The New York Times, or simply handwritten notes on places to stay, shop or eat for certain cities I want to visit.  As you may know a couple of weeks ago I was in New York City.  Doesn’t matter I used to work there – things change, I still make notes.

I had over indulged the previous day with breakfast at our favorite, The City Bakery. This is the most scrumptious French Toast you’ve ever tasted, only made better by washing down with a cup of homemade spoon-worthy hot chocolate.  I’m watching my calories so I left off the homemade marshmallow.

By the next morning, I was up for something new.  Always a tough sell to the husband, but one mention of the word doughnut and we were out the door to The Doughnut Plant (note: you need flash – site won’t work on iPad).  Any foodie knows about Mark Israel and his square doughnuts with inventive flavors.  Of  course you can’t just eat one, but you should. The square peanut butter banana doughnut, yaaahhuuuumm, was long gone by the time I got back to a camera.  This was the one everyone raved about… the Creme Brulee Doughnut.  Note the carmelization on the top, creamy vanilla center – OMG this was heaven.  Worth a visit.
