In 1976 America celebrated its Bicentennial on the Fourth of July. The country was awash in patriotism, red, white and blue proudly decorated everything possible. Kids waved flags, bands played the Star Spangled Banner, we ate hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream without thoughts of what was in them or calorie counting.
Here am I dressed to ride on the running board of our freshly restored 1930 Ford Model-A Four Door Sedan in the Fourth of July Parade in Harbor Springs, Michigan. Nobody worried about falling off back then.
This was when we were taught to be responsible, not mindlessly incoherent. What am I wearing? This is an original green silk dress worn by my great great grandmother. This was her dress as an adult, as a sixth grader I was her size.

How things have changed. I likely wouldn’t fit into the dress now, but close. But my husband will tell you I look the same.
Here’s wishing you a wonderful Fourth of July holiday!
