The 2022 KBIS trade show was an eyeful of delightful new kitchen trends and ideas. Get ready for fresh kitchen appliance options, lots of vibrant colors and relatability. We are brining back our Good, Bad and Oh My industry show report.
This year cooking took center stage. While KBIS is the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, honestly there wasn’t a lot of bathroom items which caught our eye. A few years back it felt like the year of the toilet, for 2022 its all about the working kitchen. We’ve spent the last two years using our kitchens more than ever before. As the workhorse/hub of the home, they are about to get exciting. I’ll try recipes like soup du jour using our new kitchen.
THE GOOD
Ranges are back. Full size, large size, professional grade, commercial quality ranges for the home kitchen were on display at KBIS. Almost every kitchen appliance manufacturer made the full size range a significant feature in their booth, and many of them offer color. The Italians: Bertazzoni, Forza, ILVE, Fulgor Milano, SKS (Signature Kitchen Suite)and Smeg were there in force. There are gas, dual fuel and fabulous ranges with induction cooking tops and other appliances like a microwave that is important in the kitchen, and there are many different sizes of microwaves, if you can’t decide what size to pick, here is a detailed guide to read for this.

Signature Kitchen Suite, created by the LG Electronics Group, showcased their 48″ dual fuel Pro Range with the first ever built-in sous vide as it the most exciting range on the market.
Color is everywhere! From appliances, to hardware, to plumbing fixtures to cabinetry, at least one of these items must show up in color in your home as More Bonuses. Maintaining food and beverage quality is more important than ever, as we watch our prices climb at the grocery store. Everyone from Whirlpool to True Residential made this a focus. Whether it be specific LED lighting which cycles inside the unit to maintain fresh vegetables, special drawers, or stainless interiors which do not capture odors like plastic, every manufacturer addressed customized food quality for the users needs.
THE BAD
Here I only found one rather awful product, these colorful toilets, only made worse because they appear to be made out of plastic much like a child’s toy. No. No. Definitely not.
OH MY
Innovation is everywhere. Usability and design is the focus. Not only are these items useful they are visual stunners, simply mesmerizing.
First are these unbelievable gas burners from Pitt Cooking. This is for the OCD/design OBSESSED cook with the desire to be unlike anyone else. You design your cooktop however you choose with the space you need.
Imagine integrating your cooking into your countertop, configuring burners the way you cook.
Probably the most eye catching product was the kitchen ventilation from Falmec. Not only are these visual eye-candy which enhance the architecture of the kitchen, they work to improve the air quality in the kitchen. I’m always amazed how often kitchen ventilation is ignored. Whole communities in the USA don’t require it which is ridiculous since the kitchen is the largest contaminator to home indoor air quality. You need to ventilate people! Finally, my favorite innovation for people who use their oven is the all glass interior oven door (this one is from Bertazzoni), a brilliant idea! This is a must for any new oven. If you cook (and hate to clean) the interior door on the oven is FINALLY easy to clean and user friendly. This offers seamless design without nooks and crannies which catch everything. We found this so important it became the first thing we looked for when approaching an oven at the show, without this, they didn’t get a second look. Not everyone offers this. The brands we found offering this delightful improvement were: Bertazzoni, Smeg, Forza and Miele.
