This year the Porsche 911 is going to be one of the featured marques on the lawn of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Watch out Pebble, Porsche aficionados are their own sect of the automotive world. They live and breathe all things Porsche and the 911 is their sacred cow. Car lovers have their favorites but Porsche people take it to a whole other level, in a good way.
An appreciation for history runs in the veins of Porsche designers and since 1963 when the first 911 came to market, they have been fine tuning their creation, allowing the natural evolution of time and technology to mold one of the most fantastic cars ever produced.
Porsche people glow when they get out of their cars, and why not, they are a pleasure to drive and sport their own unique look.
While other car companies seem to constantly try to reinvent the wheel, Porsche stays true to their heritage. Porsche improves what needs to be improved but they have only refined the sleek 911 silhouette over the years.
There is just something about driving a Porsche. The price of admission is significantly less than other sportscars but it is not less of a car and oh does it perform. You think, it goes. Unlike others with a wickedly heavy front or rear one has to balance and maneuver, a Porsche glides, they dance with pinpoint precision along the pavement.
Driving a Porsche, at least the newer models and yes with the Tiptronic or PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) transmission is like an extension of one’s own body, the moon and stars align and driving is a dream.
Ever look in the garage of someone with a Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley or other supercar wombat, often there is often a Porsche in the mix. A Porsche is cool and comfortable enough to be a daily driver, not in your face. I remember getting out of a Lamborghini test drive once with the hubster and both saying, “we are Porsche people.”
