Pristine Packards From The Automotive Past

The doors of nostalgia open and the red carpet unfurls at the sight of a vintage Packard.  Bright lights and movie stars come to mind.  A symbol of power, prestige and oozing sex appeal, Packards are one of the most beautiful automobiles every manufactured in America. Not happy with his Winton car, James Packard complained to the company.  Miffed by the audacity of this young upstart, Mr. Winton challenged Packard, a mechanical engineer barely five years out of college, to build his own car.  He did.  The first Packard appeared in 1889.  His new car company, Ohio Automobile Company, was not officially founded until 1900, only two years later it became the Packard Motor Car Company. Visit America’s Packard Museum site for more information.

Here are just a few of the beautiful  “motor cars” which cause us to cherish the good old days. Known for power and speed, not many realize their racing history. Unrestored 1938 Packard on the lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. 1934 Packard Phaeton 1937 Packard Boattail Speedster With this 1947 Packard we can see where things started going wrong.  The glitz and glamor were gone – this is one ugly car.  But I won’t leave you on that note. The telltale lines of vintage Packard perfection.

With this I hope you have a wonderful Fourth of July Holiday this upcoming week.  Drive well and thanks for stopping by – Lisa
