Ralph Lauren’s Classic Cars Come To Life

Anyone who drools over classic cars becomes transfixed over the automobiles in Ralph Lauren’s personal car collection. While we may not be able to drive them like he does, he allows us a piece of them in the fashions he creates.1938 Alfa Romeo Mille Miglia SpyderRalph Lauren has amassed what many would call the primo collection of cars.   He appreciates them as “moving art” and why not, this is sculpture you can drive. 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SLSTYLE, SHAPE & FORM  – Classic cars, the really good ones in terms of unparalleled beauty and investment quality are the perfect amalgamation of these three characteristics.  Not too much, but enough of the sinuous curves, big bold swaths of perfectly formed steel, and articulate upholstery.  1938 Bugatti Atlantic1954 Ferrai 375 PlusPERSONALITY – Vintage cars exhibit a distinctive personality one which may or may not be consistent across the brand.  There was no catalogue of options, coachbuilders were artisans as well as engineers.  Each car was different.  It could have been the headlamps, the grille, air intakes or other details which rendered each car as distinctive of how a person wears fashion, with their own twist. Ralph Lauren FashionCARS AND DESIGN – His intimate relationship with his cars is reflected in the fashion he creates for men and women.  Next time you take a look at Ralph Lauren’s clothing, note the details he borrows from cars.  The cleanliness of shapes, stitching and even his bold colors are often taken from his cars.  Ralph Lauren and orange MclarenDon’t those orange pants look an awful lot like certain Mclaren?

In his own words Ralph Lauren describes his affinity for cars.
