A beautiful interior has a definitive starting point from which we crate a roadmap to color scheme success. As an interior designer I do it every time and it works, every single time without fail. Here are some snapshots of a recent project built around watery blues and aquas.
We begin with a color key, one key fabric (artwork, rug, tile, or wallpaper) serves as the center point of the interior design. Colors and materials in the home all connect to this color key.
The obvious benefit of a roadmap is it simplifies the decision making process. Color makes the parts and pieces of this home connect and flow seamlessly from one room to another.
This green glass tile has hints of blue in them. This bold tile is actually the inverse of the color key, where the greens are stronger than the blues in the same proportions. The same tile makes up the fireplace surround in the dining area. Remember, repetition is glorious and makes a home comfortable.
Color looks best when balanced with lots of clean white, Everything isn’t eye candy but it sure is beautiful.
The bedroom fabric is a lighter and softer version of the colors in the color key, similar but different.
The master bath off the bedroom has a lighter version of the exact same wall color, and more blues in the tile.
This shows you how to connect the dots so to speak. The color key fabric is the starting point and we built our roadmap off of this, taking versions of each of those colors to influence the rest of the rooms in the home. There is a home office, entrance hall, powder room and furnishings which you don’t see yet, as the unpacking is still underway.
There is one more spot the color key has huge impact and this is the front door.
A good home begins with the right front door color. How do you pick a front door color? We always go back to the color key.
The hidden benefit is a happy home, everyone gets what they want. A roadmap is a great equalizer and rule maker, if it doesn’t go the answer is no. Can you see how using a roadmap for interior design makes it all come together?
