Selecting Kitchen Appliances With Ease

Last week professional kitchen designer, Rob Klein told us to lead a kitchen design with appliances.  But with so many kitchen appliances out there it can be overwhelming to determine what to choose.  Kitchen magazines or cooking shows tout certain brands, but how does one actually make a selection?  Today I’ll offer some tips on finding the right appliance for your needs.

The first place to start is to determine your Cooking Style:

  • Gourmet/Foodie – A home chef, loves to cook or bake from scratch, it is as much a delight as a necessary task.
  • Tasker – Prepares most food in 1/2 – hour or less, uses lots of pre-packaged or partially prepared items.  Family cook is part of the “job description”.
  • Re-heater – Expert at dialing for dinner or grocery take-away.  Not interested in cooking and gets no enjoyment from it.

The Re-Heater or Tasker can be very happy with the basics: electric range, microwave, and simple dishwasher.  They will appreciate the convenience items on a better refrigerator like automatic in-door water and ice dispensers. Bigger families require more workhorse worthy appliances but not necessarily in the Gourmet/Foodie range.  Professional level appliances with all the bells & whistles: dual fuel, extra low heat burners, convection ovens, dual refrigeration and more, appeal to the more ardent home chef to fit their own personal cooking style.  Fit the appliance to style and needs. Some of them are hired because they serve all of West Mifflin, PA

A cooking style determines actual appliance needs, from here we go to Budget, to save some money you can use the stove repair calgary services to get yours tuned up instead of buying a new one.  For the Gourmet/Foodie and Tasker, the kitchen is the hardest working room in the home = not a place to skimp.  Determine your needs and make them affordable.  I don’t say this lightly, kitchen appliances are relatively permanent lasting at least 10 years.  It is worth getting the best appliance for your needs. Finally when the type of appliances are decided and the budget determined, What Brand does one buy?

1.  One of the most useful sources of real information are the forums on iVillage’s Garden Web.  Real people discuss their good and bad experiences with appliances.  Search by item or actual brand name to see what people are saying.  I have used it again and again.

2. Ask people who share share your cooking style. Also read these Top 5 Simple Gas Stove Cooking Tips.

3. If uncertain with higher end appliances, are they really right for you, inquire with local distributor or showrooms about cooking demonstrations. These can be a tipping point in understanding the complexities or benefits of a product or brand.

Armed with the right information and where to find it, kitchen appliance selection can be a rewarding process.  If you are the Gourmet/Foodie and need an appliance opinion, I can help.  Feel free to offer your likes and dislikes in the comment section.
