One glance at the calendar, hard to believe a month from now Pebble Beach Car Week will be here again. Time flies, doesn’t it? There is just something about having this event on one’s calendar year after year, time goes by faster, must be a car person thing. Concours Chairman Sandra Button and her crew always seem to up their game year after year. Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the entire week on the Monterey Peninsula promises to be another awesome event.
The special classes for 2015 are:
Ferrari: After last year’s jaw-dropping Ferrari 250 TR class, this year the spotlight will be on Preservation Ferraris and those which raced in the Pebble Beach Road Races of the 1950s. If by chance you are a Ferrari fan, this is the year for Ferrari overload.
Not only does the annual Concorso Italiano deliver lots of great cars but the Ferrari Club of America is hosting their annual Mercato in Monterey, right as Pebble Beach ends. Surely even I’ll be seeing red by the time the week is over.
du Pont: An amazing car company with a short but respectable life span from 1919 to 1931 which produced 537 cars, however most people only associate the name du Pont with chemicals and paint. (Those were the paints I remember in my dad’s body shop.) Of this only 30 are known to still exist and a significant number will grace the Pebble Beach fairway this year. Many of the du Pont family members, amongst others, proudly keep these cars and their important contribution to American automotive history alive.
Pope: No this has nothing to do with a Pope-mobile. Pope was once a popular bicycle manufacturer turned car manufacturer at the beginnings of the 1900s. We’ll put this in the oldies but goodies category.
Designs by Carrozzeria Touring: This Italian coach builder, still in existence, has contributed their design flair to some of the most beautiful and significant models and marques throughout the past 80 years. When you see the Touring Superleggera badge, one knows they are in the company of greatness.
Postwar Cunninghams: The Cunningham car has a significant spot in American automotive history, started by noted racer and collector Briggs Cunningham with the goal of winning at LeMans. We were lucky to get up close to many of the Cunningham cars at The Revs Institute in Naples, Florida. If you can’t make it to Pebble Beach this year, put The Revs on your must see cars-cation list.
Mercury Customs: Considered by many the ultimate American car for customizing in the 1940s and 50s, this should be an interesting and unique class.
British Prewar Sports Cars: This could be a show in and of itself with so many great British sports cars the selection committee must have been overwhelmed with options.
I can’t wait to see what is on the field. Follow me on Instagram & Twitter @SuixtilLisa for live shots from the entire week. Click on the Cars menu and you’ll notice a section dedicated to Pebble Beach where you’ll find LOTS of photos and posts on this fabulous event.
