What are Home Decor Styles?

Welcome to Style Week for home interiors.  The topic is too much for one post, so we are going to devote a week to interior design style.

If you are reading this blog your brain is undoubtedly armed with visions of style in terms of personal fashion or homes.  We see someone well dressed and we label them stylish.  Hollywood is full of stylists.  In a home we might call a home modern, contemporary or traditional which are styles.

In interior design style is the often the guiding force to uncovering a theme for your interior.  It is a map for how items relate to one another, allowing the entire home, room to room, to coordinate.

Wonderful homes which promote the feeling of comfort all have a unifying style.  When elements work together to create something we understand, we can be comfortable.  When the interior is nothing but a jumbled mishmash of stuff, there is no style.  We feel edgy, dissatisfied and uncomfortable.  If you wanted to label the place, you might call it a mess.  Which might be a style as we are defining it, but not one to aspire to.

A home’s exterior is often the first clue to the interior style which we will cover Wednesday.  The geographical location of a home can also influence an interior style which is Thursday’s topic.  We will end with a break down styles into specific interior decor themes. Developing your style is where we will start tomorrow.
