April 5, 2018 TVR announced its return to motor racing as a partner with successful REBELLION Racing, competing in the LMP1 (Le Mans Prototype) series of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 2018 – 2019 Super Season. The following day REBELLION Racing debuted the new car on the track at Friday’s WEC Prologue (three day testing event) at Paul Ricard.

History
TVR began life in 1946 in Blackpool, England by Trevor Wilkenson, originally named Trevcar Motors. The cars stared life as race cars and numerous models of production cars were made over the years but TVR never achieved significant sales due to financial and/or management issues.
The cars became successful in the early 50s at sprints and hillclimbs. The TVR Grantura made the company’s first Le Mans attempt in 1962. TVR was successful in the 70’s in the Production Sports Car Racing series with Chris Alford winning 22 Class wins and 2nd in championship in 1976. TVR participated at Le Mans in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and ran a number of successful one-make race series in the UK until 2006. TVRs were and are popular with local club racers and many who have had TVR road cars enjoy them. TVR has a large cult following.

After several stops and starts, ownership and management changes Surrey-based entrepreneur and petrolhead Les Edgar bought the company in 2013. To coincide with TVR’s 70th anniversary, TVR unveiled its all new Griffith road car at 2017 Goodwood Revival and is currently taking deposits (not for the US market) on their website. Deposits for the new Griffith have been coming in since mid-2015 and they have filled the first 600 spots. Production is expected to begin later this year.

REBELLION Racing
Swiss privateer REBELLION Racing is no stranger to endurance racing as the “dominant privateer LMP1 Team in the FIA World Endurance Championship” with consecutive LMP1 wins since 2011. In 2017 they entered and won the FIA World Endurance Champions in the LMP2 series. This year they are back in the LMP1 series with two cars.
Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR, said: “When we resurrected the TVR brand, we knew that we wanted to achieve a return to the race track. Our partnership with REBELLION Racing allows us to achieve that goal, while bringing about valuable operational and technical knowledge, which directly transfers to our road car operation and future racing activities.”
“A return to Le Mans is very much in our sights and the partnership with REBELLION will allow us to get ahead of the game,” Edgar told Motorsport.com.
