Yippee I’m Replacing the Bosch HE Front Load Washer

I promised I would tell the truth on my blog and if something sucks I’d say so…

A couple of weeks ago I confessed to my husband I wanted to replace the expensive Bosch Nexxt High Efficiency front loading washer I HAD to have seven years ago.  The moldy washer and stinky laundry was not what we expected from supposed to be fabulous washer.

Oh yes, I researched and tried everything:

  1. leave the door open after a wash,
  2. liquid detergent only,
  3. very little detergent,
  4. run a cup of bleach every so often,
  5. run a cup of white vinegar every few washes,
  6. add 1/2 cup powdered borax to the laundry tub,
  7. use the pricey Affresh washer tablets once a month (they work to keep stink away),
  8. clean rubber gasket with Tilex, (doesn’t work)
  9. dry rubber gasket after each wash,
  10. scrub rubber gasket to remove visible mold (too many remedies to list – none work),
  11. tried the new Tide washer tablets (hideously perfume-like, a cover-up not a fix), and finally
  12. wash towels on hot.

No matter how much scrubbing, cleaning, drying or chemicals used – the mold always came back.  High efficiency my a$$!

Why are they still making front end loaders with rubber gaskets?  Don’t the mounting lawsuits with numerous manufacturers clue in someone, these are a stupid idea?  Damp + rubber + dark + no air movement = mold and mildew = rank smelling towels & washcloths.

Here is the case where going green, trying to save water proved to be a bad idea.  How much water did I save if I washed and rewashed stinky laundry over and over?

Read the online horror stories involving any and every washing machine manufacturer about front loaders and the mold & stinky laundry.  The Laundry Room Forum at GardenWeb is worth hours of entertainment.  But I did read enough to make a decision to buy a new Samsung top load model.

The new Samsung seems to be washing well so far, clothes come out clean and in good condition.  So much for the fancy designer laundry room I had plans for, with a sleek countertop across the top and cabinetry for that built-in look .  I care more that the thing works, not what it looks like.  I’ll just design a pretty door and keep the laundry room closed. 🙂
